Contractor insurance application

This is everything needed to put your account in front of carriers. It takes about ten minutes, and your answers save in this browser as you go, so you can stop and come back.

Step 1 of 7

Your business

Start with how the business is set up. The legal name matters because it is what goes on the policy.

What you do

Carriers price almost entirely off the type of work and how much of it there is, so this section drives the number more than anything else here.

Two questions that change which carriers will look at you. Answer them straight. A yes is not a problem, it just points the account at a different market.

Payroll and subcontractors

Workers compensation prices off payroll by type of work, and general liability prices off receipts and subcontracted cost. Estimates are fine here. Nothing is binding.

Annual payroll by type of work Split it the way you actually run. Field labor and office staff rate very differently, and separating them usually lowers the premium.
If you cannot produce a certificate for a sub, your carrier charges you for their payroll at audit. It is the single most common surprise bill in this trade. Whatever your answer, it does not affect whether you get a quote.

What you need quoted

Check everything you want priced. If you are not sure whether you need something, check it anyway and I will tell you whether it is worth carrying.

I will come back for VINs and driver license numbers once you decide to move forward. No need to dig those up now.

What your contracts require

This is the section most agents skip, and it is why certificates get rejected. If you subcontract to general contractors, their agreement dictates endorsements your policy has to actually carry.

Not sure is a completely fine answer to all of these. Send me one of your contracts on the last step and I will read the insurance section and tell you what it actually requires.

Claims and history

Say it plainly. Losses do not disqualify you, but a loss a carrier discovers later does. Carriers order loss runs anyway, so there is no version of this where it stays hidden.

Where to send it

Last part. Attach anything you already have and it shortens the whole process considerably.

Attachments Any of these help. None are required.
What happens next. I read it the same day and tell you which carriers will take it and roughly what it costs. If I cannot beat what you have, I will say so and you will not hear from me again unless you ask.
Please complete the required fields above before submitting.
